And 4 years after the launch of Pi 4, the Raspberry brand presents us with the 5th version of the most famous mini computer in the world of Makers. This has many new upgrades, which could influence the purchase, even for those who have already purchased version 4, all of which are quite notable when using the card on a daily basis.

New platform

The brand's trend, throughout the evolution of Pi boards, has been the individualization/separation of functions from the main chipset. This can be seen, for example, in the Pi 3, when compared now with this new version: in the latter, you can see 3 distinct chips, each with specific functions, working together. We highlight here the "main" ones, the Broadcom BCM2712, working with a 2.4GHz clock (vs 1.8GHz on the Pi 4) and with a 16GHz architecture. nanometers (vs 28 nanometers of the Pi 4) and with a new GPU, the VideoCore VII. The result? An experience 2 to 3 times faster, both in terms of processing and graphics!

Form-Factor Evolution

Apparently identical to previous versions, always maintaining the small form factor similar to that of a credit card, we can notice, at a closer glance, the absence of the 3.5mm jack port, 2 connectors for the 4-line MIPI interface, 1 connector for PCIe 2.0, 1 connector for UART, for RTC, for the fan and for PWM control and, perhaps the most requested by fans of the brand, an on/off button on the side.

Keeping it simple!

With regard to the remaining peripherals, the brand maintained the material of the successor cards: we continue with 40 I/O pins, USB-C port, 2 HDMI video outputs, 1 RJ45 Ethernet connector, 2 USB 3.0 ports and 2 USB 2.0 ports, thus completing our board.
