At ElectroFun we have a few different GPS modules, but none that met all of our wishes - that's why we acquired this small GPS card. This is the Ultimate GPS Module. It has everything you want and more:

The Breakout is built around the MTK3339 Chipset, a High Quality GPS Module, capable of Tracking up to 22 Satellites in 66 Channels, has an excellent High Sensitivity Receiver (-165dBm Tracking) and a Built-in Antenna. It can make up to 10 Location Updates per second for High Speed ​​and High Sensitivity Registration or Tracking. Energy usage is incredibly low, only 20mA during Navigation.

Best of All: Contains all the Extra Items you could wish for: a 3.3V Ultra Low Abandonment Regulator so you can power it with 3.3Vdc - 5Vdc on 5V Safe Level Inputs, ENABLE pin so you can turn it off the Module using any Microcontroller Pin, an area for an optional CR1220 Battery to keep the RTC running and a small bright Red LED. The LED flashes at about 1Hz while searching for Satellites and flashes once every 15 seconds when a Correction is found to Save Energy. If you want to have an LED on all the time, we also provide the FIX signal on a pin so you can light an External LED.

Two features that really stand out in the Module based on MTK3339 Version 3 are the functionality of the External Antenna and the Integrated Data Logging Capacity. The Module has a standard ceramic Patch Antenna that offers -165dBm sensitivity, but when you want to have a larger antenna, you can connect any active 3V GPS antenna via the uFL connector. The module will automatically detect the active antenna and switch!

Another interesting feature of the new Module based on MTK3339 is the built-in data recording capability. As there is a Microcontroller inside the Module, with some empty FLASH memory, the latest firmware now allows the sending of commands to make the internal registration of that FLASH. The only thing is that you need a Microcontroller to send the command "Start Registration". However, after sending this message, the Microcontroller can turn off and no longer need to connect to connect with the GPS to reduce energy consumption. The time, date, longitude, latitude and height are recorded every 15 seconds and only when there is a correction. The internal FLASH can store about 16 hours of data, adding data automatically so you don't have to worry about accidental data loss if there is a power outage. It is not possible to change what is recorded and how often, as encoded in the module, but we have found that this arrangement covers many of the most common requirements for recording GPS data.

It comes with a fully assembled and tested Module, a Header that can be soldered on the Breadboard and a CR1220 Battery Holder. The CR1220 battery is not included, but you can purchase it at our store!
